JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: LIFEGUARD
REPORTS TO: SWIMMING POOL MANAGER
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Swimming Pool Manager, performs the duties of lifeguard and other work as assigned. This is a seasonal, part-time position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work effectively in highly stressful environment and ability to communicate with public; problem solving; reading and writing; possess current WSI, Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional and First Aid for the Professional.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Assist instructor with swim lessons.
? Perform the assigned duties of lifeguard, including administering first aid and
resuscitation as required.
? Assist in pool programs and activities.
? Assist in enforcing rules and regulations of safety and conduct.
? Assist in keeping the pool area, restrooms and deck clean and free of litter.
? Assist in cashiering and selling refreshments.
? Perform other duties as required.
MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS:
The Lifeguard is required to utilize standard office equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 15 years of age and possess current certificates for Lifeguard Training, First Aid for the Professional and CPR for the Professional.
DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
? Water safety and lifesaving techniques.
? Red Cross regulations
? Safe work practices
Ability to:
? Perform water safety and lifesaving techniques.
? Count money and give change appropriately.
? Assist in swim lessons.
? Maintain control and handle emergency situations.
? Work in all weather conditions.
? Deal effectively and courteously with the public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Requires current certificates for lifeguard training, first aid for the professional and CPR for the professional. The ability to work with the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Use of hands, arms and legs and other motor skills used for swimming skills. Ability to sit and work long periods of time in varying degrees of weather. Exposure to loud noise, bending, kneeling, walking on slippery surfaces, squatting; uses senses of vision, hearing and small to diagnose problems.
